Department of Business and CREIS Seminar (David Monciardini, University of Torino)
On May 28, 2025, the Department of Business and the Center for Entrepreneurship and Social Innovation Research Studies (CREIS) at the Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB) organized an academic seminar with Professor David Monciardini from the University of Turin, who presented his research titled "'Just measure': The normative microfoundations of measuring and communicating business sustainability," developed alongside Laura Rocca (University of Brescia) and Steffen Böhm (University of Exeter Business School).
During his presentation, Professor Monciardini examined the normative foundations involved in the emergence of tools and practices for assessing business sustainability. The research adopted a pragmatist approach to investigate organizational sustainability measurement practices, analyzing the case of CAUTO, an Italian social cooperative, and conceptualizing three interrelated valuation practices: balancing values, valuing things and people, and representational evaluation.
The seminar addressed how this pragmatist and integrative approach extends current theories on business assessment, offering a more situated perspective for understanding and measuring business sustainability in specific organizational contexts.
